Gastroenterology

The aim of our Gastroenterology Center is to find the best possible solution for all stomach, bowel, liver, biliary, pancreatic and other digestive problems. With our screenings we prevent the development of more serious problems or detect them in time, when they can be fully cured.

Our examinations include the detailed questioning of the patient, laboratory tests (blood, urine, stool), abdominal ultrasonography, gastro- and intestinoscopy (under anesthesia as well!) and the examination of all other gastrointestinal diseases (e.g. lactose intolerance, celiac disease, Helicobacter, etc.).

Gastroscopy

Gasztro6We apply gastroscopy to diagnose and treat esophageal, stomach and duodenal diseases (ulcer, inflammation, reflux disease, tumors, etc). This is a bit uncomfortable, but is not a painful examination and last only for a few minutes. We anesthetize the throat and the pharynx with Lidocain spray, but in case it is not enough, we can administer either an intoxicating injection or full anesthetization if necessary. We can take samples for biopsy, which can provide additional information, it can for instance prove the existence of a Helicobacter pylori infection or the existence of a celiac disease. We can ascertain the existence of Helicobacter without gastroscopy, applying the breath test, and we can check the celiac disease by blood testing, and this can identify the cause of several complaints.

Colonoscopy

Gasztro2We apply colonoscopy to determine inflammatory bowel diseases (ulcerous colon inflammation, Chron disease) and the other causes (tumors, infections, etc.) for a bloody stool and any changes in defecation habits so that we can treat and heal these in the most effective way.

Colonoscopy is a 10-20 minutes long examination in which we use a colonoscope to scan the entire colon. The examination can be performed either by applying intoxication or under full anesthesia supervised by an anesthesiologist, where in the latter case it is warranted that the patient does not feel anything from the examination. Anesthetization consists in a single venous injection, which makes the patient fall asleep in abt. 1 minute and wake up 1-2 minutes after the examination is ended. The patient then can leave the clinic on his/her own feet, but may not drive vehicles on that day.

We do the colonoscopy applying cutting-edge technology, a Fuji video-endoscope, which we can use to take samples for biopsy and to immediately remove polyps if necessary during the examination. The examination takes abt. 1 hour from entering and leaving the consultation room.

Facts

  • 8,500 people contract and more than 5,500 people die of colon cancer in Hungary each year. This is the second most common malignant disease in Hungary.
  • Colon cancer remains symptomless for quite some time and it most often develops from benign polyps.
  • Colon cancer can both be prevented or detected in time by removing polyps during colonoscopy.
  • Colon cancer detected in time can be completely healed.

Ultrasonography

Ultrahang1We use abdominal ultrasonography to examine the liver, biliary gland (gallstones!), kidneys, pancreas, urinary bladder, prostate, womb an the ovary, and we can use it to detect malformations (stone, tumor, cyst, etc.) of these organs. This is the first recommended examination in case of all abdominal complaints as this is a painless, non-invasive examination.
